|

I know I've been a stranger here the past few months, but resin casting has really kept me busy! I created my own monster..but its for the best and its pretty fun.
I recently bought the new Double Dragster kit that comes in the Premium Tin. It measures 10 inches long and 14 inches wide and its based on the original art work from the 1960s.
The premium Tin kit comes with 1 extra duplicate chrome sprue section to help with building the 3rd car in the kit!
You also receive pad printed MH race master cheater slicks and white walled versions also along with 4 white wall Firestone front tires. The goodyear blue streaks are also back..and supposibly the outer round centers have been fixed, but my kit still had them molded wrong rendering them useless!
The kit still has some hiccups, mainly with how the parts are attached to the sprue's..such as the corvette script valve covers for the small block Chevy, so a few part box runs are a must.
New in the kit are two extra kit glass in red or green tint! so you get a total of 3 (other is clear) You are getting enough tinted glass for both cars.
Raised injection circles litter some of the frame sections and a few chrome intakes...but it isn't that bad for a kit made in the very early 1960's. You get Halibrand solid windowless wheels for the rear, and 12 spokes for the front. Given the two chrome sheets that are identical, you end up getting 2 sets! enough for two cars.
Hidden on the bare plastic sprue is the Cragar "Super Trick" pro stock wheels, that were in the kit during the 1970's repop, these wheels will snip off the sprue's perfectly..I was shocked by that!
Engines included are 2 small block Chevrolet's and 1 hemi. You can build the Chevrolet to be potvin blown or FI injected and the hemi to be blown or carbed using the 4x2 (8 carb) log intake!
You can find the kit on ebay right now, for a pretty fair price considering what you get, and the tin is worth whatever the extra cost is as it really makes a statement when its on the shelf or in the collectible display case.
Those not getting the tin special edition and resorting to the cardboard box version..you wont be getting the lettered tires and perhaps the extra chrome tree.
You can see all the pics through this link..(pictures don't meet the requirements here)

No other kit has sparked imagination more (other than the ford c 650 coe kit) than this double dragster kit. I'm in love with the very early swooped roll bar chassis research dragster frames, and this kit before the repop has hit as high as 80 bucks for a super mint kit..well not anymore! and now I can finally own one.
I decided to make some new tires for the front. I took those two piece AFX plastic tires from AMT, they have horrible tread but beautiful sidewall details, so I sanded down each side till I had a perfectly flat sidewall.
I then found a suitable candidate for the tread, and I found it in the matt and debbie hay's T bird. It's the Moroso front runners. I sanded down the widewall of the tire till it was perfectly flat on both sides, pulled a mold off everything and casted my copies to glue together. Much easier than glueing rubber to plastic.

I'm still unsure which wheels I'll be using but It will either be the Tommy Ivo rear wheels or the 4 slot ones you see here..

Thanks for the run down Ryan. I pre-ordered 6 of these kits from Dennis at Model Express. I got an email from him on Monday saying they had been shipped. I am standing by the mail box waiting.
Your casting on the front wheel and tire looks really good. Do you plan on selling any? _________________ Racecar spelled backwards is still racecaR. |

Got my (first two) kits in the mail a few days ago. I say my first two because I'll be ordering several more of these kits they are everything Ryan said they were and more If AMT will keep repoping kits like these the members here alone could keep them in business LOL. Great wok so far Ryan keep the pics coming. _________________ " I saw Elvis at 1000ft." -John Force after going thru the finish line upside down and on fire! |
